Page Rank & Ranking Algorithm

Larry Page and Sergey Brin (need no introduction) gave link based concept, the foundation of their search algorithm called Page Rank. Search Engines download a copy of websites to their server in order to rank the webpages. The search engines are massive data banks that store a duplicate copy of all the websites they can find. The ranking algorithm is used against all the downloaded copies of web pages.
Page Rank predicts how relevant a web page is for any given search. Every webpage on the internet is assigned a Page Rank, from 0 to 10. The higher the page rank the more relevant is the page and the better its chance of showing up at the top of the search results. Most websites never get past a 4 or 5. Page Ranks of 6 are hard to come by, and 7s are downright rare. 8s and higher are reserved for the Apple.coms and Microsoft.coms  of the world. By downloading the Google toolbar and enabling the Page Rank bar we can see site’s Page Rank.
