Link Building

Links are the currency of online marketing. To rank higher on search engine it is mandatory to build links to gain more traffic. Getting good quality links to your site will enhance the reputation of the site which will increase its visibility to the online audience. Building trusted backlinks is the most important off page optimization factor to the success of your internet marketing. There are various online sites which offer 100% link guarantee, often contains spam or adult content. Getting link through such sites would penalize your site or google may remove it. The kind of links you should first look for:
  • Family and friend’s website
  • Websites in your industry or niche
  • Social media site
Every link deal involves a personal exchange with other webmaster or marketer. Writing a simple mail you can ask for a link to your website either as a favour from friends  and family or as a resource from industry  sites in their home page , resource page or at any place in the bottom of the page. A link from a popular site is worth tens or hundreds of links from the sources.  From visitors and the search engine point of view it’s not only the links are important but link text are also equally important.  Link text also called anchor text refers to the words used in the links.
<a href=”/link.html”>anchor text</a>
Links through older domains are ranked well as they tend to be more trusted than new domains. Therefore it is more beneficial to build a website with older domain.  Search engines typically employ a page breakdown called block level analysis to determine the differences between the different purposes of site links based on their location on the web page.

There are various types of links:
  • Navigation Links: These are the links for internal navigation to pages and content within your own website.
  • Content Links: These are of two types
    • In-site links/ Internal Links: These are the links present in the content linking pages within your website.
    • Off-site Links: Links to those sites other than your own site. Getting editorial links (links made within the content) of another website is the most valuable type of link.
  • Advertising Links: Links under this category are purchased links. Google has developed strict guidelines for such links. Links should be purchased through a reputable advertising server or advertiser.
  • Social Links: Social media sites are valuable to SEO as they are free to join and have high trust rank. These links provide you easy access to recommend any page, product or title to others.
  • Comment Links: These links are provided by the visitors visiting the blogging sites. This created an issue for bloggers due to many non-trusted links provided in comments just to gain links to their websites. Therefore the website owners have started using no-follow tag to designate non-trusted links. Blog s/w now comes with comments link set to no- follow links.
