- For the search Engine
Visitor Sitemap
The visitor sitemap is a directory or a structural overview of the content of the website. Visitors use this page as a reference for navigating a website. Traditionally according to SEO wisdom search engines uses this page as a resource page. Through sitemap visitors are able to see all the information provided by the website in a hierarchical structure and they can easily visit the target page. The sitemap page should reflect the information architecture of the website, high level categories, subcategories and important information. We can add short description to content and categories to help visitors to distinguish among similar content and aid their search in navigating the page quickly and logically, finding the relevant information. E.g. sitemap of my blog site can be as follows:

Search Engine Sitemap
The search engine sitemap is an XML structured document that contains the typical information
necessary to describe each page on a website. It contains:
· Meta Information
· Content
· URLs
Sitemaps provide a guideline for the search engines in indexing the webpages. Sitemaps can be created online using online tools such as www.xml-sitemap.com . Sitemaps created can be files like:
- ror.xml
- urllist.txt
- sitemap.xml
We can verify and add these sitemaps URL to Google Webmaster, Yahoo webmaster and MSN Webmaster respectively for indexing of the webpages. We upload the sitemap on the server through FTP for the spider to crawl our website. It is not a onetime activity. Periodic uploads of XML are recommended if new pages have been added or older pages have been removed. Search engines apply their linking values to pages that are indexed, both the pages with the source of a link and the page with the destination of that link.
